This is What it Means to be a MaMa 10/19

Not my best pic, but I loved what they were doing.  Kira is teaching Ariana ‘The Wheels on the Bus”. It was too sweet a memory not to remember.  They had been fighting over my phone, Kira was playing a game and Ariana wanted to play too.  So Kira (being the incredible big sister that she is) turned on the Wheels on the Bus app (by Duck Duck Goose, if you have a small child and an iPhone, I HIGHLY recommend them!).  Once it started playing the song, Kira sang the words and showed Ariana how to move her hands.

These are the moments that make it all worthwhile.  To see the interact so sweetly, to see how Ariana looks up to Kira and how Kira wants to be the example for Ariana, is amazing, incredible, and makes my whole life.

Greek Festival

Ok, so this should have been our out and about last week.  I petitioned the greek festival people, but they refused to change it (jerks, don’t they know we have a curriculum over here!  We are creating educated and enriched children!  Haha.)

Anyway, so it was a week later, but it was still good to talk to Kira and Ariana about other cultures and how we are all different but all people.  How many people are different from us, but we can all learn from each other.  Great concept for little ones to understand.

The food was INCREDIBLE.  My mouth is watering just thinking about it.  The guy next to us had Tournides (Greek pastry kind of like doughnuts with honey and powdered sugar).  Ariana was all over him like white on rice.  The poor guy  He thought it was funny though and gave her a couple.  The girls love Greek.  They have a special place in their bellies for Feta cheese, so they loved the food.

They also had a fun show where they did traditional Greek dancing, which was cool.  Kira loved the music they had playing and had so much fun dancing around while we ate.

Plus they had games and bounce houses in the back.  They were really too big for Ariana, but Kira had fun on the slides!

Let’s All go to the Zoo

In studying animals, we figured it was best to see a few up close and personal.  We love the zoo, have a membership, go there often.  My favorite is the giraffes.

Kira really enjoyed the lions, being as we have been watching an absurd amount of Lion King.  I think we all enjoyed the chimps the most though.  The Houston zoo just added a big chimp exhibit, it is awesome.  They are always up against the glass interacting with us and each other.  So incredible to watch.

Need a Shift in Focus?

As mothers sometimes we all need to be reminded to look at what’s important in your life?  Is what you are doing now making you happy or is there something better?  Small reminder today: Don’t sweat the small stuff when you could be making memories with your babies.

Looking for a little more guidance.  Check out my sister site, www.mamafusion.com, for a little more inspiration.  I am holding a giveaway now for a FREE spot in my LIVE workshop, Finding the Focus.  This 5 week program is going to get you moving in the direction of your dreams, finding who you are, and building better relationships with those closest to you!  Come on over and check it out, let me know what you think!

Where Are They Now?

This week, we discussed maps as our Math lesson.  We looked at the world map and put the animals we painted where they live.

Zoo-fari!

We snuck in not one, but two Math activities this week!  (Bwahaha, that sneaky mama)

Since we talked about maps, and Steve and I wanted to buy the Lion King anyway, we decided to make a game of it.  That’s right, things don’t just come easy in the Montez household.  You gotta work! While she was napping, I hid 9 animals and the grand finale around our house.  I drew a map of our downstairs and numbered the places I put the animals.  I put the map, her toilet paper roll binoculars, and a water gun in her ‘safari bag’.  When she woke up, she found it at the top of the stairs.  She wasn’t terribly sure until she spotted the first animal at the bottom, then she was all about it!

She had to follow the numbers to find all of the animals.  I think this was as much fun as the grand prize!  She was so excited every time she found one.  She would stand up and proudly proclaim what it was!  The dogs were as interested as she was, they definitely wanted to ‘help’.

At the very end, she found the Lion King.  She was super excited.  We watched part of it tonight.  Ariana was SO amused!  She sometimes really surprises me still at what holds her interest.  She loves animals, but is just now starting to notice tv.  I am not sure that is a good thing (her noticing), I am not a huge fan of television myself, but it was so great to see her reaction tonight.  She laughed and laughed every time the lions came on.  She absolutely loved it.  Kira kept pretending she was eating popcorn, which I thought was hilarious.  We had a nice girls’ night together.

Paint the Animals!

We painted.  I’ll be honest, it was a disaster!  Ariana ate the paint, then drank the wash water, then spit it all over the carpet.  There is green paint EVERYWHERE!   But, it was still pretty fun, and definitely educational.  :)

Animals Have Taken Over the House

They are hiding between our books…

Braving the perils of the Refrigerator…

Climbing on the Furniture….

Wandering Aimlessly…

And sunning in the dog’s water bowl.

Yep, animals have taken over the house.  This week that is what we studied!
